I need help on great ways to sell credit apps to customers in retail?

I cashier at sears and would like to start selling more credit apps during the holiday's. When i ask, most say I either have a sears card or they aren't interested. If they were to sign up they are to receive 15$ credit to there first statement as a bonus.
The problem is that you're trying to offer them a credit card when times are tough, and that $15 is just nothing compared to the interest they charge. Not only that but, the only thing a customer wants when they are getting rung up is to get out of there.
